A Fence Only Matters When It Holds
A fence does quiet work until the day it stops. The north wind comes through the valley, a post that was already soft at the base snaps, and suddenly the dog is in the neighbor's yard and the side of your house is wide open.
Most fence failures start small. A wood post sits in wet soil every winter, then bakes through a hundred-degree July, and the bottom slowly rots. A gate drags a little more each month until the latch won't catch. Catch it early and it's usually a few posts and an afternoon. Wait, and it turns into a whole run coming down at once.
That's where we come in. We fix what can be fixed, replace what can't, and tell you straight which one you're looking at.

Local to Chico and Butte County
We work all over Chico, from the older streets near Bidwell Park and downtown to newer neighborhoods off Highway 99 and out toward the orchards. We also cover Oroville, Paradise, Magalia, Durham, Gridley and Orland. We know the clay soil, the summer heat and how fast a north wind can find a weak post, and we build with all of that in mind.

Fence Questions We Hear a Lot
It depends mostly on material and length. National averages run about $5 to $15 per foot for chain link, about $13 to $45 per foot for a 6-foot wood privacy fence, and about $30 to $55 per foot for 6-foot vinyl. Most backyard projects land somewhere between $2,000 and $4,500. Gates, slopes and removing an old fence add to that. We'll measure and give you an exact written price for free.
If the boards are in decent shape and only a few posts have rotted or snapped, a repair is usually the smart move. If most of the posts are soft at the base, or the boards are split and gray all the way through, you'll spend less over time replacing the whole run. We'll look at it and tell you which one makes sense, and we're happy to just do the repair.
A well-built redwood or cedar fence usually lasts 15 to 20 years here, sometimes longer. The posts tend to go first, because they sit in wet soil all winter and dry out hard every summer. Setting posts in concrete, keeping soil and sprinklers off the boards, and sealing the wood every few years all help it last. If your fence is older, we'll tell you honestly how many good years it has left.
Yes, almost always. Bent top rails, sagging fabric, loose ties and leaning posts can be fixed without tearing the whole fence out. We can also patch a torn section with new fabric and tie it in so it stays tight. Most chain link repairs take a few hours. It's one of the cheapest fences to keep going for decades.
In the city of Chico, a front-yard fence is generally limited to 3 feet unless the city approves a permit for something taller (Chico Municipal Code 19.60.060). Backyard fences can usually be taller. Rules differ in Butte County and in other towns, so we check the current height rules for your address before we set a single post. Want more privacy than the limit allows? We'll tell you what the city will ask for.
